Arriving Sunday September 18th

The Central Coast Book & Author Festival is back for its 12th year. This fun and free celebration of the literary arts will take place Sunday, September 18th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in San Luis Obispo’s scenic Mission Plaza.
A kickoff event, an evening with syndicated cartoonist, Jerry Scott, happens 7:30 p.m. Saturday September 17th at the San Luis Obispo Library. Jerry, the creator of the popular “Zits” and Baby Blues” strips will share his talent and creative genius with his fans of all ages. The event is free of charge, but seating is limited and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Scores of authors, publishers and organizations will exhibit their works at this year’s outdoor-indoor festival. Among the featured attractions:
Author workshops and panels held at the San Luis Obispo Historical Museum and the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
Book sales and signings by a variety of authors and organizations
Art of the Book Show: Book artists and illustrators will have original work on display and available for sale at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
Public Readings: Hear your favorite authors read their works from the official “Reading in Public” chair, or sign up at the festival to read from your favorite book for a $5 donation (per five minutes). Bring your own book.
Gary Elem, also known as Dr. Magic, will bring his comedy magic show and balloon animals to the festival.

The Central Coast Writers’ Conference, held at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo is being held September 16 -17, prior to the Book Festival. Information regarding this event can be found at www.communityprograms.net or at

These community events are designed to emphasize the importance of reading and writing, with writing the focus of the Friday and Saturday Writers Conference and books and the joy of meeting authors at Sunday’s Book Festival.
