Bike Month Goes Big!

The Commuter Bike Challenge is a countywide effort to get as many people as possible on a bike once during May. The online challenge encourages organizations to compete with one another on the basis of participation, not miles or trips. Split into four competing size categories, companies, churches, schools, clubs and governing bodies will try to get as many people as possible from their group to ride a bike once and log their trip online. The four winning organizations will receive a custom made Commuter Bike Challenge Trophy awarded at the Bike Month Blowout on June 2nd. Participants of the challenge will receive a free Bike Month t-shirt, spoke card and bike light (as supplies last) at Bike Month events. Members of the public and challenge participants can view real time challenge standings starting May 1st by going to www.rideshare.org/bikemonth. Data collected from Commuter Bike Challenge participants will be used to advocate for the continuation and expansion of bicycle related programs and infrastructure projects.
With over 30 events planned so far, Bike Month is going big. Notable events include Bike to School and Work Week, Bike to School Day, Bike Fest, Buy By Bike Day, Tweed Ride, Pedal to Paella, Kidacle Mass, Bike Month Blowout and the Executive Challenge. For a full list of events, visit www.rideshare.org/bikemonth. Bike Month events are free and open to the public. “We truly have something for everyone,” stated Morgen Marshall, Rideshare Program Manager. “There are Bike Month events for kids, families, students, executives, commuters, fashionistas, music lovers, art aficionados and everyone in between. The goal is to provide fun events that encourage people to dust off their bikes, pump up their tires, and experience the joys and benefits of being on a bike. Those who attend Bike Month events will have the opportunity to win two bikes. An original Fat Tire beach cruiser will be given away at Bike Fest and a Linus commuter bike will be given away at the Bike Month Blowout.
