Mommy Style Mavens
The same is true with fashion and style. I have talked to many women who claim to love it but don’t seem to put the time and effort in to put their best foot forward each day, but I think they all deserve to. In honor of Mother’s Day I’m going to give some tips about dressing fashion-forward and stylish at any age. This is for all the busy moms, grandmothers, and moms-to-be- because style never takes maternity leave! Take the current trends in fashion under consideration, but there’s no need to break the bank to buy all of the items. You can create your own versions and re-use what you already have in your closets. Get creative, you’ll be surprised of the BIG result you get with little effort.
IN YOUR 20’s ~ Add texture to separates. Use accessories (rings, statement necklaces, or interesting bags/purses) to accentuate plain separates in solid colors. Even try a studded sandal or heel to add texture to your look.
IN YOUR 30’ s ~ Add wild prints to your look and re-invent yourself. Prints can be either animal or tribal. Be careful not to mix and match prints, but use accents such as an animal print blazer, a tribal print skirt, or a printed purse to add a little spice to the solids you pair them with.
IN YOUR 40’ s ~ Amplify basic black with electric, bright neon colors. Try a pop of lime or fuschia paired with a basic black skirt or trouser and solid accessories (bag & shoe). If you are not brave enough to go head-to-toe neon with a dress, just try a pop of color with a top or scarf.
IN YOUR 50’ s ~ Modernize your look with eclectic pieces. For example, using a basic wrap dress in a solid color and adding a vintage clutch and a textured shoe. Draw from all different time periods to create your own unique look.
IN YOUR 60’ s ~ Get well suited in classic tailored suits in different shades. Try an all-white tailored suit (jacket & trouser or pencil skirt), or try a colored trouser and a tailored blazer in black. Mix with understated accessories, plain silver chains and a pair of chic shades to finish the look.
IN YOUR 70’ s + ~ Opt for bright-colored dressing. Try bright orange or fuchsia, but don’t confuse this with the neon suggestion mentioned above. Bright colors are on point with trend and season. Mix a bright solid skirt with a floral print blouse, or try a full bright colored dress with a dark accessory (bag, shoe, belt).
MOM-TO-BE ~ No sacrificing style. Mix maternity pieces with pieces in your closet that you already have. Wear form-fitting garments that show off your shape. Baggy clothing makes you look BIGGER, and that’s the last thing you want. Mix solids and prints. Use accessories (jewelry & textured hand bags) to jazz up a solid-color maxi dress. If you go short, try an over-the-knee boot with a flat heel.
No matter what your age or mommy-status, you always have options when it comes to dressing- and being- fabulous. The key is that YOU have to believe you are. Put yourself back on your list as a priority! Remember you cannot be a good mother, grandmother, wife, sister, or friend unless you take care of yourself and show yourself some LOVE. CELEBRATE yourself today and everyday! HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
