Live Long Better

Live better. Live longer. As some of you know, I have worked as a nurse for more than 30 years and have learned a few things I think everyone should consider.
- Most heart attacks and strokes happen in the morning, because people are dehydrated and their blood is thicker. Keep water or my favorite—watered-down orange juice by the bed (the glucose helps, along with the sodium and potassium.) Watered down juices are better anyway because pure juice plays havoc with insulin levels.
- Which brings me to blood glucose. It's a problem for many people. Recent studies indicate the arsenic levels in our water are killing our pancreas’(no pancreas, no insulin, you get fat and die.) The solution? Reverse osmosis, but not all filters get the arsenic levels out so make sure you get one that works. Also, peanuts a great low- glycemic index food that can help even-out the glucose levels. Peanuts and bananas are also high in lithium and can help modulate your moods a little.
- DHEA is a natural substance in your body that diminishes, as you grow older. It is a precursor to 50 different hormones. Some doctors say it helps you live longer. I've been using DHEA for years for the following reasons: Improving muscle mass. I believe it stimulates testosterone production. (I don't exercise so I need as much help as possible.) Testosterone is also the hormone that governs the libido. If you want to spice things up a bit, old people, check it out. DHEA accelerates healing. Dosage? Most bottles say 25mg in the morning. I use half that because my testosterone levels get too high and I start to get bossy. If you use it, experiment with the dosage. Also a French study indicates that DHEA restores the pulmonary artery of smokers to a nonsmoker condition. Good stuff.
- Glucosamine. This stuff really works. My osteopath friend loves this stuff. My suggestion: Triple the indicated dose for two to three weeks and then back off to a regular dose. Think of Glucosamine as a warm glue that softens, builds, and melts joints, tendons, and ligaments. It helps to do a nice deep massage in those areas where you have pain in the first few weeks. Works great with DHEA. DHEA stimulates growth hormone production. Vitamin C also helps in the healing process.
- Aspirn and Ibuprofen. Aspirin works for so many things. If it hurts your stomach put it under your tongue. if you run out of 81mg take a regular aspirin every third day. If you cut yourself and your blood is really thin and you don't clot quickly, reduce your dose. Ibuprofen: a new study indicates that Ibuprofen can help reduce the incidence of Alzheimer’s. I take 200mg a day. Here's a bit of trivia— a lot of sickness that we experience is not the direct cause of viruses, bacteria, or pollution. It's the inflammation caused by them. Reduce inflammation reduce the illness. Most folks don't know why high BP is bad. The pressure HBP puts on you vessels causes them to expand causing cracks (like in a hose) the healing of the tissues can cause thickening of vessels reducing blood flow.
- Anti Depressants. The new serotonin drugs are good. If you are using high doses of alcohol, dope, or cigarettes (that stuff will kill you) to help with your mood check out Lexapro, or another SRRI. I use a really low level of Celexa (a cheap version of Lexapro.) I kept thinking that it wasn't working until I cut the lowest dose in half. Just a little help with the brain. Why do I like it? It enhances my senses a little, evens-out my moods, makes me a little happier. Serotonin decreases as you get older. You don't have to be grouchy.
- Finally a mental health thought: I've worked a lot with the mentally ill. Here's a little secret I figured out for myself. The more you give the more you get. With all the economic concerns people are a little jacked. My solution: Give of yourself to someone you dig. Forget about money just give something for free, a massage, something you don't use anymore, whatever. I recently took up Rolfing—one of the greatest healing modalities ever invented. I made up my mind to Rolf people. One lady I worked on was in pain for 10 years after a car wreck. She's pain free now and
I feel so damn proud of myself... Start giving a little, it works. Give it free.
Create value.
