Oct Publisher's Note

First, I found the most wonderful walking shoes… Wolverlines. I was able to slip them on and begin walking without discomfort. I now walk an hour a day. This feels GOOD!

Next I not only wrote about Thermography, I experienced it. I never liked mammograms; I couldn’t understand why they would use radiation to detect cancer when radiation can cause cancer. (I was one of the 1970s Diablo protesters…) You can never convince me that radiation is good for anyone’s health and wellbeing. The scan was simple; it beat the cost, pain and stress of a mammogram.

And so I’ve been thinking… For twenty-five years October has been recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). This program was created to raise awareness, educate and empower women to take charge of their own breast health. Partners of the NBCAM organization include national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies, groups that benefit financially from the practices suggested for women to follow. The general message is for women to practice regular self-breast exams to identify any changes, schedule regular visits and annual mammograms with their healthcare provider, adhere to prescribed treatment, and know the facts about recurrence.

People from across the country will come together to remember those that lost their life and those that survived the battle with cancer. It’s a lovely program, the intentions are honorable. From it, new friendships are created, communities united, and thousand of dollars are raised to pay for mammograms and cancer research. But after 25 years and the millions of dollars raised what has changed or improved for women?

Learn more for yourself. Attend a free Breast Thermography Educational Presentation & Demonstration on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m. French Hospital, or Monday, Oct. 12 at 5:30 p.m. River Oaks Hot Springs Spa in Paso Robles then you decide. Space is limited.  RSVP (805) 441-5557.
